Sunsets

Twombly follows me. The first time I saw his work, at the age of eight, I hated it viscerally - perhaps more so than any art I'd ever seen. Maybe that strong, emotional reaction is the reason I think back to him so often.

The sky in this work is influenced deeply by Twombly.

Another force that shaped Sunsets is my experimentation with the figure. For the few months prior to this work's completion (since late 2023), I've been sketching a ton of figures and playing a lot with their geometric reduction. The fluid geometry of the red character in the work is a product of said experimentation.
